Type 950XP Explosion-Proof I/P Transducer from ControlAir

ControlAir Type 950XP Explosion-Proof I/P TransducerProcess reliable and field rugged electronic pressure regulator

Now there’s a compact I/P transducer that delivers reliable high performance for the toughest applications in the most hazardous environments: the Type 950XP from ControlAir. The Type 950XP converts an electrical current signal to a stable, pneumatic output to actuate valves. Its NEMA 4X (IP65) housing is designed for both Intrinsically Safe* and Explosion-Proof* operation. Advanced circuitry includes electronic feedback control for superior vibration protection and highly accurate output.

With flow rates up to 12 SCFM (340 Nl/min), the Type 950XP has the muscle to drive large valves and actuators. Yet because it typically consumes only 0.05 scfm (0.11 m3/hr) at mid range, it not only costs less to buy, it costs less to operate as well. And because it takes impure air in stride, downtime is reduced, too.

The Type 950XP gives you big flexibility. Its small footprint can fit into tight spots. Its standard mounting bracket lets you mount it directly on a valve, wall, panel, or pipe. Optional, field-selectable process output ranges reduce downtime and inventory. And since the Type 950XP is position insensitive, it gives you even more freedom in mounting and connecting to valves and instruments. As a result of this flexibility, installation goes faster. Easy access Zero and Span adjustments make bench or field calibration quick and easy. For operating versatility, you may choose direct, reverse, and split range modes.

Type 950XP Explosion-Proof I/P Transducer Q & A

+ What is the input/output signal range, and what pneumatic output pressures are available?
The Type 950XP I/P transducer takes a standard 4–20 mA control signal and converts it into a proportional pneumatic output. Output pressure ranges include popular configurations such as 3–15 psig, 3–27 psig, 6–30 psig, and 0–33 psig, making it compatible with most valve actuators and industrial control systems in the U.S. and Canada.

+ What hazardous-area certifications and environmental ratings does it support?
This unit is built in a rugged NEMA 4X / IP65 enclosure and is available with explosion-proof and intrinsically safe approvals, including FM, CSA, and ATEX. These ratings make it a trusted choice for oil & gas, petrochemical, and other hazardous North American applications that require certified I/P transducers.
+ Does the Type 950XP provide enough flow capacity for large valve actuators?
Yes — the high-flow design allows it to support larger actuators and demanding pneumatic loads. It offers up to 12 SCFM of air delivery while maintaining low internal air consumption, helping ensure efficient response and stable pressure control in industrial automation environments.

+ What temperature range, mounting options, and operating media are supported?
The operating temperature range spans from –40°F to +158°F to support outdoor and extreme-climate installations. It can be mounted on walls, panels, or 2-inch pipe, and supports clean, dry instrument air — or sweet natural gas when configured with the appropriate option — giving operators installation flexibility in refineries, energy facilities, and process plants.

+How do I specify the correct configuration and accessories when ordering?
When ordering the Type 950XP, buyers select the required output pressure range, hazardous-area approval, media option, and mounting hardware. Providing the local electrical signal (4-20 mA), air supply, actuator details, and required industry certification upfront helps ensure the correct configuration and faster delivery for U.S. and Canadian installations.
