Type 710BP Precision Back Pressure Regulator from ControlAir

ControlAir Type 710BP Precision Back Pressure RegulatorThe Type 710BP Back Pressure Regulator is a high-flow, highly accurate pneumatic relief valve with an adjustable set point. Its primary function is to provide protection against over pressurization in the downstream portion of a pneumatic system. This precision unit is capable of handling flows up to 50 SCFM. A rolling diaphragm provides the sensitivity that causes the Type 710BP to vent to atmosphere in response to the slightest upstream changes.

Applications

Type 710BP Precision Back Pressure Regulator Applications

The Type 710BP is used in place of a standard relief valve to provide protection against excessive build-up in supply pressure lines to instruments and other sensitive control devices. The most common application is to control the air pressure in a system supplied by a compressor. Used in conjunction with a diaphragm-operated inlet restricting valve and a bleed orifice, the Back Pressure regulator relieves excess compressor pressure while activating the intake restricting valve. When the regulator shuts off, the downstream air vents through the bleed orifice, allowing the restricting valve to open.

Type 710BP Precision Back Pressure Regulator Q & A

+ What flow capacity and pressure ranges does the Type 710BP support, and how do I determine if it’s sized correctly for my system?
The Type 710BP is built for high-flow back-pressure control, with a rated flow capacity of up to 50 scfm (1,415 Nl/min). It supports output (set) pressure ranges such as 0-2 psig (0-0.14 bar), 0-10 psig (0-0.7 bar), 0-15 psig (0-1.0 bar), 0-30 psig (0-2.0 bar), 0-60 psig (0-4 bar), and 0-150 psig (0-10 bar). To size correctly, you should match the regulator’s flow rating to your maximum expected back-flow or relief venting demand, ensure the chosen output range covers your required set-point downstream, and verify that the maximum supply pressure (up to 250 psig/17 bar for this unit) is compatible with your system.

+ What materials, porting/thread options, and mounting configurations are available, and how does this affect global installation (US & international)?
The Type 710BP comes with port size/threading options, including ?″, ?″, and ?″ NPT (US standard) and BSP (British Standard Pipe) sizes to facilitate international installations. The body is made of die-cast aluminum alloy with wetted parts comprised of brass, plated steel, acetal, Buna-N, polyester, and phenolic plastic. Mounting options include pipe-mounting, panel mounting, or bracket mounting, allowing flexibility depending on your system layout. For GEO optimization: If you’re installing in North America, you’ll typically see NPT threads; in Europe or the UK you may prefer BSP. Confirm local distributor availability, spares, and service support in your region.
+ How does the Type 710BP maintain a stable back pressure set-point under varying flow and supply pressure conditions?
The Type 710BP uses a sensitive rolling-diaphragm mechanism that senses upstream/back-pressure deviations and vents to atmosphere as needed to keep the regulated set-point. While the datasheet may not state exact droop or sensitivity numbers, the precision design ensures very fine adjustment (down to small pressure changes). This means even with flow fluctuations or supply changes, the back-pressure remains accurately controlled. In your selection process, look for the regulator’s ability to maintain set-point under the highest flow or worst-case vent condition in your system.

+ What optional features and accessories are offered for the Type 710BP, and how do I choose the right ones for my application?
For the Type 710BP, optional features include an E – tapped exhaust (to capture/exhaust downstream vented air via a ?″ NPT port), K – knob with stainless steel stem, S – stainless steel adjustment screw, T – tamper‐proof cover to prevent casual adjustment of the set-point. Accessories include mounting brackets and pressure gauges. To choose: if you need the vent to be piped or safely exhausted, use the tapped exhaust option; if the environment is corrosive or hygiene-sensitive, go for stainless adjustments; if the set-point must stay locked by plant engineering, choose tamper-proof. A gauge helps in monitoring and maintaining the set-point.

+ In which industries and applications is the Type 710BP ideally used, and what benefits does it bring?
The Type 710BP is well-suited for pneumatic systems where downstream over-pressure must be reliably prevented — such as in industrial automation, process plants, oil & gas, water treatment, food & beverage, and other precision control environments. Given its high flow capacity (50 scfm) and accurate back-pressure regulation, it benefits systems that must protect valves, actuators, or downstream systems from over-pressure or maintain a consistent back-pressure set-point under variable flow. The global compatibility of port threads (NPT/BSP) and strong materials makes it viable across regions and industries.
