Challenge

Valin was approached by a company that purchases natural gas direct from the pipeline, processes it and transports it to CNG filling stations throughout California, essentially making gas stations for CNG-powered vehicles. They wanted a portable metering system which would allow them to confirm the mass quantities and chemical composition of the natural gas they were purchasing from the pipeline.

Solution

Valin's technical specialists worked together with our engineering department, fabricators and service team to design a portable metering skid that would fulfill the customer's needs. Valin also provided the customer with a Process Flow Diagram, Piping & Instrumentation Diagram, a General Arrangement Drawing, and Control Schematics/ Electrical Drawings.

Up until now, the customer had to take the word of the gas company on the quantity/quality of the natural gas?they were purchasing. Valin's new portable metering system allowed them to double-check the data provided by the gas company. As it turns out the initial readings of the quality of the natural gas contained 3% less methane than the gas company's billed readings. Verifying their suspicions were correct, the customer informed us of their desire to purchase two more units based on the ROI potential.
