Side Guide System Q & A

+ What exactly is a “side guide” in conveyor systems, and when should I use the Robotunits Side Guide system?
A side guide is a component designed to steer, support, or restrain conveyed goods along the edges of a conveyor — particularly useful for boxes, totes, bags, or other carriers that might drift or need orientation control. The Robotunits Side Guide system is built for ease and flexibility: it features quick assembly using just one tool, and is compatible across the entire Modular Automation System from Robotunits. You should use the side guide system when your material handling line requires consistent alignment, minimal deviation, side-guiding around bends or funnels, or integration into a modular conveyor line in a U.S./North American facility.

+ How flexible is the configuration (sizes, mounting, integration) of the Side Guide system?
The Robotunits Side Guide system offers high flexibility and is engineered for integration with existing and new conveyor frameworks. According to the product description, both the adjustable variant (Side Guide Base) and rigid variant (Side Guide Clip) can be mounted to the standard 14 mm T-slot extrusion of the Robotunits Modular Automation System without needing additional tools. The system supports plastic profile material that is thermo-formable (for curves/funnels) in the Side Guide Plastic variant. This means you can adapt the side guide heights, angles, and mounting positions to the width and shape of your conveyor line in a warehouse or manufacturing plant in the U.S. or Canada, making it suitable for retrofits or new installations.
+ What are the materials, durability, and technical specifications I need to know (especially for U.S./North American plants)?
The Robotunits Side Guide system uses quality materials: for example, the Side Guide Base (COP 4561) uses PA6 black (base part), PA6 GF30 black as brackets, and end caps in PE-LLD, with galvanized steel fixing material. The Side Guide Plastic profile (COL 4590) is a black PVC-Uk, available in stock lengths of 3000 mm or cut to size, and is thermo-formable (softening point ~80 °C) for curves/funnels. These specifications matter because in North American manufacturing plants, temperature, wear, and compliance (e.g., machine guarding or clean-room conditions) may require specific material standards. The modular nature and strong materials ensure durability in industrial settings.

+ How does the Side Guide system integrate with my conveyor line, and what are the benefits of using it in a modular automation setup?
Integration is straightforward with the Robotunits Side Guide system because it is part of the same Modular Automation System platform as the conveyor frames, belt systems, timing belts, powered rollers, etc. The side guide system’s compatibility allows you to mount the guide directly on the 14 mm T-slot frame, which reduces installation time and cost. The benefits include time- and cost-savings, because fewer custom parts are required; higher flexibility in application (you can adjust or reposition side guides as your product mix changes); and easier retrofitting into existing lines in North America. Also, switching between modules becomes simpler in multi-product or variable-tote operations.

+ What should I consider regarding lead time, support, and suitability for North American standards (e.g., U.S. manufacturing plants)?
For North American industrial buyers, it is essential to confirm lead time, supply chain, and integration support. Although exact lead details for the side guide system may vary, the Robotunits Modular Automation System emphasises fast delivery and modular configuration. For support: ensure that CAD data, installation instructions, and Singapore/US support are available (Robotunits lists CAD data and downloads for many of their side guide components). Also check that the system materials and mounting methods comply with U.S./Canada standards for machine integration (e.g., OSHA, NFPA/PMMI machine guarding requirements). While the side guide system is relatively low-risk, proper mounting, securing, and regular inspection are still vital in a high-throughput environment.
